Sri Maha Shivaratri was observed over two days at the temple. On Sunday Sri Rudra Homa was performed in the morning in addition to the regular Ganapati Homa, other Pujas, Abhisekams etc. 108 Kalashas were set up and sanctified in preparation for the evening Abhisekam. The evening austerities started at 5 P.M. with the recitation of Mahanyasam by a large number of votaries. This was immediately followed by the recitation of Lalita Sahasranamas which in turn was followed by the 1st Yama Puja. A large gathering of devotees participated in the Ekadashavara Abhisekam to Lord Candramouleeswara with chants of Namakam interspersed with Camakam. The final abishekam was performed with the kalasa waters. The Kalashas were passed from the Avahana area to the sanctum by a chain of votaries. After the Abhisekam, Alankara, Arcana, Dhupa, Deepa, Naivedya and Neerajanam were offered to the Lord to conclude the 1st quarter Puja. The other 3 quarter Pujas followed a similar format except the Sri Rudram was chanted just once and the Arcana was offered with Bilva leaves etc. The 4th quarter Puja was followed by Sri Lalita Sahasranama Japa and Puja to Sri Nandikeshvara. The event concluded after dawn on Monday.

ABOUT HIS HOLINESS SHANKARACHARYA SRI SRI CHANDRASHEKHARA BHARATI MAHASWAMIJI
H.H. Sri Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati Mahaswami adorned the Vyakhyarta Simhasana, Throne Of Transcendental Wisdom from 1912 to 1954. He was the 34th Acharya of Sringeri Sharada Peetham. At the age of 20, He became the head of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham and was very efficient in the conduct of its affairs. He was a great saint in the real sense, as He led a simple life without any worldly desires inspite of His exalted position at the prestigious Sringeri Samsthanam.
He had the rare power to transform, by a mere glance, even the non-believers of God into believers. He was able to explain, with great ease and humility, any subject that His sishyas brought to Him. Despite being a very learned man, He did not have the least ego. In the later years, He did not take much interest in the affairs of the mutt, but had an ingenious capacity to set right even the slightest mistake that occurred.
With the Blessings of His Holiness, SVBF is launching a program of youth volunteers. The group will be called "Sri Sharada Youth Volunteer Group". The program has a specific purpose to encourage the youths (the next generation) to come forward and take the lead and move ahead and spread the mission of the foundation. Volunteering work at the site is a step in that direction. Please note youths identified for this program belong to grade 9 and above. Read more about the volunteer program....
