॥ श्री शंभुस्तवः ॥ || śrī śaṁbhustavaḥ ||
By śrī saccidānanda śivābhinava nṛsiṃha bhāratī mahā svāmījī
कैलासशैलनिलयात्कलिकल्मषघ्नात् चन्द्रार्धभूषितजटाद्वटमूलवासात् । नम्रोत्तमाङ्गविनिवेशितहस्तपद्मात् शंभोः परं किमपि दैवमहं न जाने ॥ १॥ kailāsaśailanilayātkalikalmaṣaghnāt- candrārdhabhūṣitajaṭādvaṭamūlavāsāt | namrottamāṅgaviniveśitahastapadmāt śaṁbhoḥ paraṁ kimapi daivamahaṁ na jāne || 1 || I do not know a greater God than Lord Shiva (Shambhu), who resides on the Mount Kailash, who removes the sins in Kaliyuga, who has the crescent moon as his ornament in his hair, who sits at the base of the Banyan tree (as Dakshinamurthy), and who places his lotus like hand (the abhaya hasta) on the heads of those who worship Him. नाकाधिनाथकरपल्लवसेविताङ्घ्रेः नागास्यषण्मुखविभासितपार्श्र्वभागात् । निर्व्याजपूर्णकरुणान्निखिलामरेड्यात् शंभोः परं किमपि दैवमहं न जाने ॥ २॥ nākādhināthakarapallavasevitāṅghreḥ nāgāsyaṣaṇmukhavibhāsitapārśrvabhāgāt । nirvyājapūrṇakaruṇānnikhilāmareḍyāt śaṃbhoḥ paraṃ kimapi daivamahaṃ na jāne ॥ 2॥ I do not know a greater God than Lord Shiva (Shambhu), whose lotus feet are served by hands of the King of the Heavens(Indra), the Lord who is flanked on either side by Ganesha and Shanmukha, who is unconditionally compassionate and whose glories are sung by all the celestials. मौनीन्द्ररक्षणक्रुते जितकालगर्वात् पापाब्धिशोषणविधौ जितबाडवाग्नेः । माराङ्गभस्मपरिलेपनशुक्लगात्रात् शंभोः परं किमपि दैवमहं न जाने ॥ ३॥ maunīndrarakṣaṇakrute jitakālagarvāt pāpābdhiśoṣaṇavidhau jitabāḍavāgneḥ । mārāṅgabhasmaparilepanaśuklagātrāt śaṃbhoḥ paraṃ kimapi daivamahaṃ na jāne ॥ 3॥ I do not know a greater God than Lord Shiva (Shambhu),who destroyed the pride of Yama to protect the great sage Markandeya, who can dry up the ocean of sins with a power greater than that of the inextinguishable ocean fire (the badabagni), and whose pure white body is smeared with ash from burning manmatha. विज्ञानमुद्रितकराच्छरदिन्दुशुभ्रात् विज्ञानदाननिरताज्जडपङ्क्तयेऽपि । वेदान्तगेयचरणाद्विधिविष्णुसेव्यात् शंभोः परं किमपि दैवमहं न जाने ॥ ४॥ vijñānamudritakarāccharadinduśubhrāt vijñānadānaniratājjaḍapaṅktaye’pi । vedāntageyacaraṇādvidhiviṣṇusevyāt śaṃbhoḥ paraṃ kimapi daivamahaṃ na jāne ॥ 4॥ I do not know a greater God than Lord Shiva (Shambhu), whose hand shows the jnana mudra (palm extended with index finger touching the thumb), whose complexion shines like that of the pure autumn moon, who is intent on giving divine knowledge (jnana) even to the ignorant, the glory of whose lotus feet has been sung by the Upanishads themselves and who is worshipped by Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. इति श्रीशंभुस्तवः संपूर्णः ॥ iti śrīśaṁbhustavaḥ saṁpūrṇaḥ || Transcribed by Subrahmanyam Lanka Summary meaning by Subrahmanyam Lanka and Srinivas Mallapragada
